Women's Health

Women’s health is beautifully complex, influenced by a delicate interplay of hormones, life stages, and unique biological needs. From our menstrual cycles to fertility, pregnancy, and menopause, our bodies are constantly evolving, and with these changes come varying physical, emotional, and mental health challenges.

It can feel like a rollercoaster ride of energy levels, brain fog, emotions, and physical changes that seem to trip us up when we least expect it.

Factors such as hormonal fluctuations, lifestyle, and genetics all contribute to this complexity, making it essential to approach women’s health holistically. Understanding these challenges and how to support your body through each stage can empower you to take charge of your health.

Common issues affecting Women's Health

Women’s health issues are often complex and can present with a variety of symptoms that affect your quality of life. Some of the most common women’s health concerns include:

  • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): A hormonal disorder that can cause irregular periods, weight gain, acne, and excess hair growth and is linked to insulin resistance and hormonal imbalances.

  • Endometriosis: A painful condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, causing severe cramps, heavy periods, and pelvic pain.

  • PMS and Mood Swings: Many women experience premenstrual syndrome (PMS) symptoms such as mood swings, irritability, bloating, and cravings, often linked to fluctuating hormone levels.

  • Perimenopause and Menopause Symptoms: Hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, brain fog, and weight gain are common symptoms during the transition to menopause due to declining oestrogen levels.

  • Urinary and Vaginal Health: Issues like frequent urinary tract infections (UTIs), vaginal dryness, and painful intercourse can impact women’s health at any age.

  • Bone Health and Osteoporosis: Declining oestrogen levels, especially after menopause, can affect bone density, increasing the risk of osteoporosis and fractures.

These symptoms can feel overwhelming, but understanding their root causes can help you manage them more effectively.

What if you could feel like this?

Energised and uplifted, enjoying more good days and less time feeling worn out by hormonal imbalances

Empowered and confident, understanding your body and feeling in control of your health at every stage of womanhood

Balanced and in tune with your body, with fewer hormone swings and more stability throughout your cycle or transition

Liberated to live life fully, without your body’s changes or symptoms holding you back from doing the things you love

THE COMPLEXITY OF WOMEN'S HEALTH

Hormones & how they affect your body

Women’s health is closely linked to hormone balance, particularly oestrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, which regulate everything from the menstrual cycle to mood, metabolism, and bone health.

Oestrogen is crucial for reproductive health, heart health, and maintaining bone density, while progesterone plays a key role in regulating the menstrual cycle and supporting pregnancy. Testosterone, although present in smaller amounts, contributes to muscle strength, energy, and libido.

Hormonal fluctuations can occur naturally, such as during the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, and menopause, but other factors like stress, poor diet, lack of exercise, and exposure to environmental toxins can disrupt this balance, leading to various health issues.

Conditions such as PCOS, endometriosis, and thyroid disorders can further impact hormonal health, making it essential to address the root causes of these imbalances. If you are craving more balance because irregular cycles and weight gain is getting you down, let’s work together online or in-person in London to manage these symptoms and help you feel your best.

Factors that impact Women's Health

Several lifestyle and environmental factors can significantly affect women’s health, including:

  • Chronic Stress: Prolonged stress increases cortisol levels, which can interfere with reproductive hormones and contribute to menstrual irregularities and mood swings.

  • Nutrient Deficiencies: Diets lacking in essential nutrients, such as iron, calcium, magnesium, and B vitamins, can affect energy levels, bone health, and hormonal balance.

  • Physical Inactivity: Lack of regular exercise can impact cardiovascular health, weight management, bone health and overall hormonal balance.

  • Thyroid Health: Thyroid hormones play a vital role in regulating metabolism, menstrual cycles, and energy levels; thyroid dysfunction can disrupt overall female health.

Advanced Testing for Women' Health

Women’s health is dynamic and ever-changing, but with the right support, you can navigate each stage of life with confidence and vitality. Understanding your body and addressing the root causes of your symptoms can help you feel more balanced, energised, and in control.

If you’re experiencing symptoms that impact your health and wellbeing, advanced testing can provide valuable insights into hormone levels, nutrient deficiencies, and other underlying factors contributing to your symptoms. Standard tests often miss subtle imbalances, but comprehensive testing can evaluate key hormones like oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone, thyroid hormones, and cortisol, offering a clearer picture of your health.

I work closely with women to provide personalised support tailored to their unique needs, combining advanced testing with practical advice on diet, lifestyle changes, and targeted supplements. By exploring how nutrition, stress, sleep, and environmental factors influence your health, we can create a customised plan to address your specific concerns and improve your overall wellbeing.

If you're interested in private testing to gain deeper insights into your health, we’ll recommend the most suitable tests based on your specific needs. Urine, stool, or saliva test kits can usually be delivered to most locations across the country. For advanced blood testing, we’ll help you find a local phlebotomist to make the process as easy and stress-free as possible.

As a London-based nutritionist, I specialise in providing customised, evidence-based health advice. Whether you prefer in-person consultations or online sessions, I’m here to help you develop a personalised wellness plan that aligns with your goals.

PCOS to Perimenopause
My personal experience and lessons learnt

Dealing with PCOS has been a rollercoaster of hormone fluctuations, pain, and uncertainty. With genetic factors working against me, I often felt like I was facing an uphill battle. I struggled with cramping, missed periods, and the physical and emotional discomfort that came with it. For years, I relied on the contraceptive pill, which seemed to mask some symptoms but eventually created new challenges. This left me feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, and unsure about how to make lasting changes.

I wish I had known earlier that PCOS can be a precursor to other metabolic issues, which I later developed because at the time I didn't realise how the body interconnected. My hormonal imbalances often left me feeling out of control, some days I’d manage, and others, I’d be completely exhausted, or in pain. It was a constant rollercoaster, and I spent so much time feeling disconnected from my own body, especially when it felt like I wasn’t seeing the results I needed despite my efforts.  I wish I had known then just how much of a difference food, lifestyle, and addressing nutrient deficiencies could make through personalised testing.

Now, I want to help others avoid that uncertainty by addressing the root causes and making lasting changes that work for them. If you're going through something similar, know that you're not alone. With the right approach, you can regain control of your health and well-being.

Every person with PCOS is different, and the key to relief is understanding your unique root causes. By getting to know my body better, I’ve been able to make adjustments that have helped me regain balance and control over my health.

As I transition through perimenopause, I want you to know that it doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom. While it comes with challenges like hormone shifts and fluctuating energy, it’s also an opportunity to reconnect with your body in new ways. With the right support, balance, and mindset, it can be a time of empowerment and renewed focus on your health.

I’ve learned that by listening to my body’s needs, through nutrition, lifestyle adjustments, and self-care, I can navigate these changes with more confidence and ease. Perimenopause doesn’t have to be something we dread; it can be a time to embrace, where we prioritise our health and build new habits that support us into the next stage of life. If you're feeling overwhelmed by your midlife hormones or struggling with PCOS, let’s work together to create a plan that helps you feel energised, balanced, and in control.

How to improve Women's Health naturally

Improving women’s health involves a holistic approach that targets the root causes of your symptoms. Key strategies include:

  • Balanced Nutrition: Eating a nutrient-dense diet rich in whole foods, healthy fats, and adequate protein can support hormone balance and overall health.

  • Stress Management: Techniques like yoga, meditation, and deep breathing can help reduce stress and support hormonal balance.

  • Weight-Bearing Exercise: Activities like walking, hiking, or resistance training are crucial for maintaining bone density and reducing the risk of osteoporosis as we age. This is especially important because oestrogen, a hormone that helps protect bone health, naturally declines as we age, particularly during menopause.

  • Minimising Toxins: Reducing exposure to environmental toxins by choosing natural skincare products, avoiding plastics, and using non-toxic cleaning products can help protect hormonal health.
